Thoughts and observations on the Swedish foursome
published September 24, 2026
The year of 2027 marks the 50th anniversary of the recording and release of ABBA – The Album. With hits such as The Name Of The Game, Take A Chance On Me and Eagle, and the "signature" tune Thank You For The Music, it may be one of ABBA's most beloved albums.
Album sessions started at Marcus Music Studio on 31 May 1977, when the backing track for The Name Of The Game was recorded. To highlight this anniversary, on Saturday 29 May 2027 Tours For Fans and I will celebrate The Album at the very studio where most of it was recorded: Marcus Music (today Soundtrade Studios).
In my presentation, I will go in-depth on the track-by-track creation of the album, and you will hear this story in the place where it all happened. I'm super-thrilled just typing those words, and I simply can't wait to get together with like-minded fans and share this "journey", this "trip through space and time", as ABBA themselves phrased it in album track Move On.
But there's more! Soundtrade Studios is located in Solna, just north of Stockholm, so we will start the day by exploring ABBA-related locations in Solna and other nearby places. What is particularly exciting about this venture is that until recently some of those locations were completely unknown to me, and certainly by most ABBA fans. Can't wait for this either!
Many reading this post will be in London celebrating the fifth anniversary of ABBA Voyage in London on 27 May 2027, so why not extend your complete immersion in all things ABBA and pop over to Sweden for the ABBA – The Album celebrations on the 29th. Very much looking forward to seeing you there.
Come celebrate this classic album in the very studio where most of it was recorded.
